Godzilla Medaka / ゴジラメダカ
Godzilla is a modern Japanese improved medaka line known for its dark overall expression and distinctive green to blue-green external light across the back. This listing is for five unsexed Godzilla Medaka juveniles produced from Aquaphoria’s current breeding group.
- Species: Japanese Ricefish (Oryzias latipes)
- Life stage: Juvenile
- Sold as: five unsexed Godzilla Medaka juveniles
- Sex: Unsexed
- Aquaphoria stock: Offspring from our breeding group
Reported Lineage & History
Japanese medaka sellers and breeder references attribute Godzilla to second-generation Aqua Boy / 二代目アクアボーイ and report the strain as a Sumibu / 墨武 × Crocodile cross. The line is especially associated with green external light. Aquaphoria presents this as reported strain history; we have not independently verified a breeder-certified chain of custody for every generation of our current breeding group.
Appearance
- Green to blue-green external-light expression across the dorsal surface
- Dark body tones that can make the reflective light appear stronger
- Expression can change with age, lighting, background color, viewing angle, stress, and acclimation
- Juveniles may continue developing color, external light, and overall finish as they mature
Best Tub / Viewing Setup
Godzilla is worth evaluating in both dark and light containers because the line can present differently against white versus black backgrounds. For display, start with a matte dark gray, charcoal, or black medaka tub to emphasize reflective contrast, then compare fish in a white or light-gray evaluation tub when selecting for green external light. A broad, shallow medaka tub, planted container, patio pond, or aquarium with stable water and gentle aeration works well for grow-out.
What You Will Receive
You will receive five unsexed Godzilla Medaka juveniles from Aquaphoria’s Godzilla breeding group. Sex is not guaranteed at this age. Individual juveniles will vary naturally in size, body tone, dorsal light, and degree of adult expression.

Care
Care level: Easy
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult size: Approximately 1.25–1.5 inches
Setup: Aquarium, breeder/grow-out tub, planted tub, patio pond, or medaka container
Provide clean, conditioned water, stable parameters, gentle filtration or aeration, and good surface area. Avoid abrupt temperature or water-chemistry changes, especially after shipping. Juveniles do best when they are not crowded and have consistent access to clean water and appropriately sized food.
Feeding
Feed small portions of quality medaka food sized for juveniles. Baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and other suitable live or frozen foods can be used as part of a varied diet. Avoid leaving excess food in grow-out tubs.
Breeding & Selection
As the juveniles mature, select breeders for healthy body shape, strong green/blue-green dorsal light, good reflective coverage, and the overall Godzilla expression you want to maintain. Improved medaka lines can show variation between siblings, so continued selection is part of maintaining the line.
Shipping & Live Arrival
Live fish are packed carefully for transport. Please review Aquaphoria’s Shipping & DOA Policy before ordering and monitor tracking so the package can be received promptly on the first delivery attempt.
Strain traits, history & competition record (Aquapedia research)
- Traits to look for: Dark internal/body expression with green-to-blue-green dorsal external light; juveniles can develop stronger sheen as they mature.
- Reported lineage / breeder history: Japanese breeder-history source attributes Godzilla to Nidaime Aqua Boy (二代目アクアボーイ) and reports Sumibu / 墨武 × Crocodile parentage. Aquaphoria sells its own in-house-bred offspring, not fish represented as breeder-direct imports.
- Created / released: First public presentation reported: July 2022. This is a reported announcement date, not necessarily the start of the original cross.
- Competition awards: No verified wins were located for this exact named strain or subtype in the sources reviewed. Lifetime award count is unknown, not zero.
Research distinguishes documented breeder statements from unverified commercial names. Individual animals may vary, and a strain's history does not certify this stock's exact parentage. Sources: Godzilla — Japanese breeder/history reference. Evidence reviewed October 2026.
