Background / Strain Notes

Mega Rayquaza, known in Japan as メガレックウザ, is a modern Japanese collector medaka created by Medakaya Savanna / めだか屋サバンナ.

Savanna publicly introduced Mega Rayquaza in March 2025 as one of its original varieties and announced its first Yahoo Auctions offering alongside White Tiger Diamond. The original breeder announcement confirms Savanna as the creator but does not disclose the complete breeding formula.

For that reason, Aquaphoria does not advertise an unverified cross or parentage for this strain.

The exact imported group offered in this listing displays a dramatic combination of metallic shine, darker head patterning, and subtle cool-toned iridescence. Viewed from above, individual fish may show:

  • Metallic silver to pale-gold body coloration
  • Dark charcoal or black mottling around the head
  • Reflective guanine across the back
  • Fine glitter and metallic scale expression
  • Subtle blue, green, or turquoise highlights
  • Translucent fins
  • Slender standard medaka body shape
  • Natural variation in pattern and shine between individuals

Some fish may appear more silver, while others may show warmer gold, olive, blue-green, or darker tones depending on lighting, age, viewing angle, and container color.

Recommended Tub Color

For the best overall visual expression, we recommend a dark gray or charcoal tub.

Gray or charcoal provides enough contrast to display the metallic silver-gold body and cool blue-green reflections while still allowing the darker head pattern to remain visible.

A black tub can create stronger contrast and make the metallic shine appear brighter, but some darker markings may blend into the background. White or very light tubs may make the fish look brighter while reducing the visible strength of their darker pattern.

Best overall: Dark gray or charcoal
Maximum metallic contrast: Black
Short-term inspection: White or light gray

When using dark tubs outdoors, provide adequate shade and monitor the water temperature because darker containers absorb more heat.
