MiPlus Wakapuka Cages – Floating Medaka Breeding Cage with Ultra-Fine Mesh

The MiPlus Wakapuka Floating Medaka Breeding Cage is designed specifically for medaka breeding, fry separation, and organized grow-out setups.

Built-in side floats keep the cage positioned at the water’s surface, while the ultra-fine mesh allows water to circulate through the cage without allowing small fry to escape. Because the cage shares water with the main aquarium or tub, the fish inside remain under the same temperature and water conditions as the rest of the system.

Multiple Wakapuka Cages can be used side by side in a single layer, allowing several breeding groups, strains, or fry batches to share one larger setup with a single properly sized heater and aeration system.

Two-Cage Water-Change Method

Using two Wakapuka Cages makes it possible to remove dirty water and loose debris without chasing delicate fry with a net.

1. Place a clean spare Wakapuka Cage inside a separate catch or rinse tub.

2. Remove spawning mops or accessories from the original cage.

3. Carefully pour the fry, dirty water, and loose debris from the original cage into the spare cage.

4. The ultra-fine mesh keeps the fry safely contained while the dirty water drains into the catch tub.

5. Loose waste and debris are separated from the fry during the transfer.

6. Place the original Wakapuka Cage back into position as the receiving cage.

7. Carefully pour the fry from the spare cage back into the original cage.

8. Discard the dirty water collected in the catch tub.

This method reduces netting, chasing, and direct handling of small or delicate fry.

Care Instructions

• Rinse the cage with aquarium or tub water if algae or debris begins to restrict water flow.

• Gently rub the mesh underwater with your fingers when needed.

• Do not use soap, detergent, bleach, or household cleaning chemicals.

• Small air bubbles may cling to the mesh when the cage is first placed in water.

• Water flow normally improves after the mesh has remained submerged and becomes fully wet.

• Medicated or heavily pigmented water may stain the plastic.

• Stop using the cage if the mesh becomes torn or damaged.

• Adjust the side floats if the cage begins to tilt.

• Unplug heaters, pumps, and other electrical equipment before placing your hands in the water.

Important Information

Wakapuka Cages float side by side on the water surface.

They are not designed to stack on top of one another while in use.

Choose heater and aeration equipment based on the total water volume and stocking level of the main aquarium or tub.
