Orange Eye Black Sapphire Demon Neocaridina

A dark Black Sapphire-type Neocaridina with contrasting orange eyes. The current product image is taken from the actual Aquaphoria colony shown in our sale video.

  • Species: Neocaridina davidi ornamental line
  • Aquaphoria stock provenance: Galactic Shrimp
  • Available packs: 1, 5, or 10 shrimp
  • Sex: Mixed/unsexed unless specifically stated

Lineage & History

Published orange-eye Neocaridina breeding references describe Black Sapphire OE as a line created by crossing a black orange-eye line into Blue Sapphire. The goal is a very dark blue-to-black body with orange-eye genetics; strong dorsal-striping and blue expression can still vary by selection. Aquaphoria’s current colony is recorded separately as Galactic Shrimp provenance, so this broader strain history should not be read as a claim of breeder-direct chain of custody beyond that documented source.

Orange-Eye Genetics

Orange-eye expression in these Neocaridina lines is reported as a recessive trait. Crossing an orange-eye shrimp to a standard black-eyed Neocaridina can produce F1 offspring that carry the trait without showing orange eyes. Orange-eye offspring can reappear in later generations when carriers are bred together or back to an orange-eye parent.

Appearance

  • Deep blue-black to nearly black body color
  • Orange eyes that contrast strongly against the dark body
  • Color and eye visibility vary with age, lighting, substrate, diet, stress, and acclimation
  • Young shrimp may finish darker as they mature

Best Tank / Viewing Setup

For breeding and observation, a mature 5–10 gallon clear-sided aquarium with a sponge filter, moss, wood, leaf litter, and established biofilm is an easy size to manage. A medium gray or planted green background makes the dark body easier to outline, while directional light helps the orange eyes show clearly. Small breeder groups can also be maintained in compact 12–25 L systems when water quality is stable.

Care

Neocaridina are adaptable freshwater dwarf shrimp, but stability matters more than chasing a single “perfect” number. Published breeder guidance for OE Neocaridina reports successful maintenance across roughly 18–26°C / 64–79°F. Use dechlorinated, mineralized freshwater, gentle filtration, and avoid abrupt parameter changes. Always acclimate new shrimp carefully to the water they will be kept in.

Feeding

Allow access to natural biofilm and algae, and supplement with a quality shrimp food in small portions. Leaf litter and other safe botanicals can provide additional grazing surface. Remove excess food before it fouls the water.

Breeding

A mature, stable tank with abundant biofilm and hiding cover gives juveniles the best chance to establish. If preserving the orange-eye line is the goal, keep the colony separate from standard black-eyed Neocaridina or track crosses carefully because the eye trait can disappear visually in F1 carriers.
