Orange Eye Orange Sakura Demon Neocaridina

An orange-bodied Neocaridina line with orange-eye genetics. The current product image is taken from the actual Aquaphoria colony shown in our sale video.

  • Species: Neocaridina davidi ornamental line
  • Aquaphoria stock provenance: Michael Häsler
  • Available packs: 1, 5, or 10 shrimp
  • Sex: Mixed/unsexed unless specifically stated

Lineage & History

Published breeder history identifies Michael Häsler as the breeder behind the original orange-eye Neocaridina project. The Orange Sakura OE / Orange Demon expression was reported to have appeared unexpectedly from the Green Demon breeding work rather than being the original target of that cross, after which orange-bodied orange-eye animals were selected forward. Published reports also note that eye color can be subtle and easiest to see under good lighting.

Orange-Eye Genetics

The orange-eye trait in these Neocaridina is reported as recessive. A cross to a standard black-eyed Neocaridina can produce F1 offspring that carry the orange-eye genetics without expressing orange eyes. Later carrier-to-carrier or carrier-to-orange-eye breeding can bring the visible eye trait back.

Appearance

  • Orange Sakura-style body color
  • Orange eyes that may be subtle without direct, clean lighting
  • Body color can vary from lighter orange to deeper, more saturated orange
  • Color and eye visibility vary with age, diet, lighting, substrate, stress, and acclimation

Best Tank / Viewing Setup

A mature 5–10 gallon clear-sided aquarium with a sponge filter, moss, wood, leaf litter, and established biofilm is an easy breeder/display setup. Dark gray, charcoal, or planted green backgrounds usually give the orange body strong contrast, while bright side or overhead lighting helps reveal the orange-eye trait. Small breeder groups can also be managed in compact 12–25 L systems when water quality is stable.

Care

Neocaridina are adaptable freshwater dwarf shrimp, but stable water matters more than chasing one exact parameter. Published breeder guidance for OE Neocaridina reports successful maintenance across roughly 18–26°C / 64–79°F. Use dechlorinated, mineralized freshwater, gentle filtration, and careful acclimation. Avoid abrupt temperature or chemistry swings.

Feeding

Provide natural grazing on biofilm and algae, supplemented with quality shrimp foods in small portions. Moss, leaf litter, and shrimp-safe botanicals increase grazing area for juveniles. Remove uneaten food before it degrades water quality.

Breeding & Selection

For a strong Orange Sakura OE colony, select for healthy body shape, clean orange body color, visible orange eyes, and consistent juvenile survival. Keep the line separate from standard black-eyed Neocaridina if preserving the visible OE trait is the priority.
