Deep Sea Daruma, known in Japan as Shinkai Daruma / 深海ダルマ, is the short-body Daruma form of the Shinkai / 深海 medaka line.
The base Shinkai strain was developed from Miyuki / 幹之 medaka and is known for its deep blue internal glow. Unlike standard Miyuki-type medaka, which are often valued for strong external shine along the back, Shinkai was selected so the blue color inside the body becomes the main visual feature. This gives the fish a clean, cool-toned look that inspired the name Shinkai, meaning “deep sea.”
The Daruma body type gives this version a shorter, rounder shape with a cute compact silhouette. Because of the short-body form, individual fish may vary in body shape, size, and swimming style.
Recommended Tub Color
For best visual expression, we recommend a white or light-colored tub. Shinkai is one of the medaka lines that usually shows better in lighter containers because the blue internal glow is easier to see.
